Raised on a working homestead

From their very first weeks, these puppies have been part of daily life on our working homestead. They have been raised around chickens, alpacas, farm sounds and people, with regular handling and gentle exposure to the sights, sounds and routines of farm life.

Over the past 12 weeks we’ve documented their journey from tiny newborns to confident, playful young Maremmas. They have experienced Early Neurological Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction, regular weighing and handling, nail desensitisation, lead training, name recognition and basic commands including come, sit and paw. Training has been positive and reward-based, with plenty of chicken treats.

They are curious, affectionate, independent little characters who have spent their days exploring, playing, learning and getting thoroughly muddy together.

More than just a puppy

We know bringing home an LGD puppy can feel a little overwhelming, particularly if this is your first livestock guardian. There is a lot of conflicting advice about how an LGD puppy should be raised, bonded and introduced to livestock.

That’s why every Wildhorse Homestead puppy parent receives our FREE 4-Week New Puppy Support Course, delivered by email over your puppy’s first month at home. It helps you navigate those important first weeks and gives you practical support as your puppy settles in.

Topics include

  • Settling your puppy into their new home
  • Building trust and confidence
  • Introducing your puppy to livestock safely
  • Understanding LGD behaviour and body language
  • Preventing chasing and unwanted behaviours
  • Chickens and other challenging livestock
  • Recall, handling and everyday training
  • Creating routine, structure and calm
  • Health, worming, vaccination and puppy milestones

Our aim is to set both puppy and family up for success from day one. We don’t believe your puppy should simply leave the farm and be left to “figure it out”. The first months are important in developing a confident, reliable future guardian, and we’re here to help you through that transition.

Our Maremma family

Luni and Obi came to us as rescues and have become the heart of our homestead. Luni is quietly observant. Obi, who has documented Italian bloodlines, is gentle, affectionate and a trusted guardian of our alpacas, chickens and pigs. Together they work as true partners, and their calm confidence is what we hope to see in every pup.

We provide puppy families with weekly updates, photos and videos. Their journey from birth has been documented across our Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and website. Search Wildhorse Homestead.

Is a Maremma right for you?

Maremmas were developed over centuries to think independently, protect without constant direction and form deep bonds with the people, animals and places they call home. They are gentle, loyal and devoted, but need space, purpose and owners who understand their instincts. If you want a dog that follows every command without question, a Maremma may not be the right fit.

We’re looking for homes that understand the breed and appreciate their natural guardian instincts, intelligence and independent nature.

$2,000 each
